When the Whole Household Feels It
A difficulty that starts with one person seldom stays with that person alone. A child’s behavior, an ongoing argument between caregivers, or a big change such as a move, a separation, a new family member or a loss can shift routines and roles for everyone under the same roof.
You may notice more arguments, more silence or family members spending less time together. Family counseling treats those shifts as something the family shares, so attention moves away from deciding who is to blame and toward understanding what is happening between people. Each person’s experience can be heard, even when perspectives differ.
Parenting Challenges and Family Conflict
Parenting brings its own pressures, especially when caregivers disagree about rules, when a child’s behavior changes or when approaches that once worked stop working as children grow. In counseling, parents and caregivers might talk through shared priorities, consistent expectations and calmer ways to respond when tension rises.
The aim is to support the approach your family chooses, not to impose one parenting style. Parenting Challenges explores this topic in more depth, and Support for Parents and Caregivers looks at the adult side of the picture.

What Family Sessions Can Look Like
Family counseling at Infinity is collaborative. A clinician can help each person share their perspective, point out patterns in how the family responds to stress and guide everyone in practicing clearer ways to talk and solve problems together. Sessions can also give family members a chance to notice what is working, not only what is hard.
Who joins a given session may vary with the family’s goals and the ages of the children. Children and teens take part in ways suited to their development, while parents and caregivers remain central to the family picture. If a child also needs individual support, Child & Adolescent Counseling is available as well.
Starting When Not Everyone Agrees
You do not need every family member to agree on the problem before reaching out. One parent or caregiver can start by calling (219) 472-8277 or sending an appointment request, sharing who is affected and what changes you have noticed. From there, the team can talk with you about what a first step could look like.
In-person family sessions are held at the Crown Point office. Telehealth may be an option depending on the clinician and where family members are located during sessions, and the team can explain what is available now. Accepted plans for Indiana and Illinois are listed on Insurance & Coverage.
